Starting with iOS 11, iPhones store photos in HEIC format by default. HEIC — High Efficiency Image Container — is technically impressive: it generates photos with about half the file size of equivalent JPEGs while keeping excellent visual quality. However there is a important issue. HEIC is an Apple-centric file type not universally accepted
